MiFID

The purpose of the MiFID2/MiFIR workstream is to oversee and input into the IRSG’s response to the review of the original Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID). This group was created in September 2010 and is chaired by Nick Collier, Global Head of Government Relations at Thomson Reuters. The European Commission published its consultation on the MiFID Review in December 2010 and tabled proposals in October 2011. In terms of the legislative process, the European Parliament and the Council reached political agreement on the level one text in January 2014.

The workstream provides input/response on various draft texts as they emerge and offers educational briefing sessions on technical issues for policymakers in Brussels. It represents a balanced view, the group being comprised of buy and sell side interests, exchanges, market data providers and the stock-broking community.
